Happy B’day, Pa'ie...

…You Are The Best!

A B’Day message for you, Pa'ie, on your 68th :

…For all the times I thought it
but just didn’t get to say it,

the times I really felt it
but neglected to display it

…For all the times I wanted to
but couldn’t quite express it,

the times when I just sat there and
expected you to guess it

…For all the times I meant it
but somehow forgot to show it,

this comes to say

I LOVE YOU!

…and I really hope you know it!

The world needs you.

The world needs you to be yourself, or else you would be somebody else.

The world needs you to help people you meet, or else you would not meet them.

The world needs you to nurture it, or else it would not nurture you.

The world needs you to smile, or else it would not smile on you.

The world needs you today, or else you would not be here now.

The world needs you.

RIP Paul Newman

Old Blue Eyes is dead. Actor Paul Newman has died from cancer, at the age of 83.

Paul Newman was a legend in his own lifetime. Last year, at age 82, Newman announced he was retiring from acting. Few have accomplished so much in film or lead such a diverse life.

In film, his name will go down in history among the likes of Clark Gable, John Wayne, Humphrey Bogart, Marlon Brando, and James Stewart. Paul Newman has been nominated for an Academy Award ten times and took home the award for his role in the 1986 film THE COLOR OF MONEY. He and Frank Sinatra are the only actors to win an Actor Academy Award, a Humanitarian Academy Award, and a Special Honorary Academy Award.

It would be hard to find someone who has lead a life as full as Paul Newman. Race car driver and team owner. Founder of "Newman's Own", a successful line of food products. Philanthropist, Newman has been generous donating in excess of $200 million to charity.

My prayers and thoughts go out to his wife Joanne Woodward and his family.

Rest in peace Paul!

Wisdom...

You are the writer, director, and
actor of your life's play. Write
big parts, direct with humour
and let your actor self shine.

Lucky?

It's raining here in the Ukay.

Listen to the raindrops on the roof. They are speaking to you.

Do you know what they are saying?

- Lucky you, who live on a planet where water exists in abundance, so much so that it falls right out of the sky.

- Lucky you, who have a shelter above your head to keep from getting wet.

- Lucky you, who can hear. Ears are one of God's greatest inventions, and you have use of yours.

If you really listen, you will be amazed at what your world is telling you.

Word 4 Today…

“The most important thing about our acts is
not whether we’ll be praised or punished,
it’s about whether we feel good or
bad about ourselves by acting
the way we do.”

Take action...

“The smallest good deed is better than the grandest good intention.”

Now let’s be careful, Duguet is not suggesting you should abandon your good intentions, only that it is important to follow up those intentions with action. In fact, an intention that is not followed through – or at least is not attempted – cannot truly be called an intention.

“I meant to clean out the garage.” (but I watched the game on TV instead) is not an intention.

“I wanted to be honest.” (but I lied) is not an intention.

“I want to lose weight” (but I ate dessert anyway).

A real intention is followed by action. I know, that is not always easy, especially when we are so comfortable resting on our backsides. But what value is a good intention if it leads not to a good deed?

Mission possible...

"It's kind of fun to do the impossible."

Look what Walt Disney accomplished with that motto. Imagine what you could accomplish.

Everything is possible once it is done, even those things that seemed
so hopeless before they were started. We all run into those situations
every day. Those are the "I can't" moments.

Instead of saying "I can't", ask yourself "Do I want to?" If the answer is "No", go ahead and say "I can't". But is the answer is "Yes", ask yourself another question: "How can I?"

Learning from mistakes...

Never stop learning, because as soon as you do that, you stop growing. And you know what happens then..., you remain the same, surviving and living purposeless.

Now you might ask, "What is the key to learning?" There are more than one, of course.

Curiosity is one. Curiosity drives us to look at things differently, to stick our nose where we have never stuck it before, so to speak. To try things we don’t really know how to do, and, without a doubt, to make mistakes. There is no better teacher than mistakes. Without making mistakes, there is very little learning.

Remember I said in the Inheritance post that, "
... why make someone else's mistakes when there are so many mistakes one can make and call one's own?"

So go out and make some mistakes. It’s the best way to make sure you are doing more than just surviving.

But do remember to learn from your mistakes as well as the ones other people make!

Inheritance...

There is a little package you are carrying. It contains a lot of things your parents and other caregivers left with you when you were small.
Attitudes.
Reactions.
Ways of seeing the world.
Biases.
Personality.
Strengths.
Weaknesses.

Many of the items in this package are very hard to change. Others are easier to change.

Some people never open up the package; they just keep living under its influence and go about their business blissfully ignorant of why they are a success or a failure in life.

Other people reject the package, determined not to make the same mistakes their parents did; after all, why make someone else's mistakes when there are so many mistakes one can make and call one's own?

But if you really want to control your life and manage your own self-development, you have to open the package. You have to review what is inside. You have to acknowledge what's inside. You have to chose what you want to hold dear and what you want to change.

It's your package, and only you can decide…if you so choose.

Blame is a waste of time...

The Prinsessies are finally getting the message. Dad says, "Don't waste time with Blame!" they keep repeating to each other. Hopefully if they repeat it to each other enough, they will take the message to heart themselves.

It seems to be a human trait that we need to find explanations for everything that happens. And so it stands to reason that we need to find blame for everything bad that happens. But things don't always happen because someone wills them to, there is not always a guilty party and we don't need to blame people.

There is a place for blame – when a person responsible for something needs to make amends or be prevented from repeating his crime. But most blame is petty and totally unnecessary and harms the blamer more than the person we blame. And that is when blame is a waste of time.

P.S. I really have no recollection of saying "Don't waste time with Blame!" to my girls, but who am I to rain on their parade?

You! Yes you!

“Make yourself an honest man, and then you may be
sure that there is one less scoundrel in the world.”

Thomas Carlyle has found a way to make this world a better place – start with yourself. You can’t make everyone be nice, but you can be nice. You can’t make everyone recycle, but you can recycle. You can’t make everyone smile, but you can smile.

Life's road...

Traffic stops. It starts. It slows down. Then you find a good stretch where you can activate the cruise control. Along the way, there are turns. Many of them are planned in advance, Some are last minute decisions. Some are total surprises, like the detour or the crash up ahead.

Life is a trip. There are times it speeds up, times it slows down, times it seems to be on a roller coaster and times when it just moves forward at a relaxed and steady pace. And there are plenty of curves and changes of directions. There are times when we suddenly change our plans and when those plans are suddenly changed for us.

That’s OK, life is dynamic. Enjoy the ride.

Try and try again!

"I can't do it" never yet accomplished anything : "I will try" has accomplished wonders.

George P. Burnham provides the key words for any type of motivation. Trying is the only thing that leads to success.

Trying, trying and keep on trying. In the end it is the person who tries the hardest who has the biggest advantage in life.

Enough Time?

Like so many of us, Rustig has a problem with time...

But our dilemma goes deeper than having a shortage of time, it’s basically a problem of priorities.

Most people, me included, leave undone those things that should be done, while they do things that they shouldn’t be doing.

We need to set priorities for our goals.

A major part of successful living lies in our ability to put first things first. Most major goals are not achieved because people put second things first.

Is what your doing getting you closer to your objectives?

Anything that is wasted effort represents wasted time.

Don’t serve time, make time serve you.

Here is the test to find whether your
mission on Earth is finished :
if you’re alive, it isn’t!

Choice

Dedicated to Oscar Pistorius...

Oscar

If it is cold, you have choices :
you can light a fire or curse the weather.

If you are hungry, you have choices :
you can eat or curse your stomach

If you are tired, you have choices :
you can rest or you can curse your fatigue.

If there is hatred, you have choices :
you can love or you can curse other people.

If it is congested, you have choices :
you can tune your radio or you can honk and curse others stuck in traffic with you.

If the store clerk is having problems, you have choices :
you can show patience or you can curse her.

Everything in life is about choice.

Everything you do and everything you say is a choice you make.

Make good choices!

Word 4 Today…

“Limitation is a choice;
I choose to be limitless.”

Are you listening?

Listen! I mean really listen. What is the other person saying? What do they mean? What are they feeling?

Most of us have our heads in our own little worlds, a perfectly natural place to keep them, and we don’t pay attention to what others are saying. We hear, but we don’t really listen. Often our minds are busy thinking about how we will respond to them…and while we are formulating that response, we fail to truly listen.

Open your mind when you open your ears, and become a great listener.

Everlasting love...

Once you have learned to love; who you are, what you do, and those around you, you will have truly learned to live.

Search for love, for it is the most important ingredient of life. Without it, your life will echo emptiness. With it, your life will vibrate with warmth and meaning. Even during any hardship, love will shine through.

To love abundantly is to live abundantly. To love forever is to live forever.

Be thankful for what you have now, and the opportunities for love and success that are before you.

Change

Let change mean more to you
than staying the same.

~{Debra Michels}~

Do you always sit at the same seat at the table. What would happen if you risked it all and tempted fate…by sitting in a different seat tonight. Yes, I know, you
would be realigning the stars and creating havoc in your household. But sometimes change of simple routines is what is needed to help the brain think more creatively.

So don’t go out and terrify your household by attempting this brazen act of rebellion at home tonight. No, save it for the next time you need to think creatively.

Then, sit in a different seat. And if your family survives the shock, go on to rearrange the living room furniture, back into the driveway, drink something different for supper.

Oh, and give somebody in your family a surprise hug –
that’s good any day.
